Amendment to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations:

The Department of State (DOS) issued a final rule that states that, in accordance
with the Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations
Act, 2008 (Div. J, Pub. L. 110-161), the DOS is amending the ITAR regarding

Lanka
, to make it

policy to deny licenses and other approvals to export or otherwise transfer defense
articles and defense services to Sri Lanka except, on a case-by-case basis, for
technical data or equipment made available for the limited purposes of maritime
and air surveillance and communications. Effective Date: March 24, 2008.
Background
In accordance with the Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs
Appropriations Act, 2008, Section 126.1 of the ITAR is amended to make it

except, on a case- by-case basis, for technical data or equipment made available
for the limited purposes of maritime and air surveillance and communications.
